Chalkwell Heritage Group was set up by the Chalkwell Ward Residents Association in 2023. It was born of our pride in Chalkwell and of the characteristics that have made it so desirable since its creation. Our wish is to highlight these characteristics, in order to help inform future decision-making that will preserve and build on this essential character.
We also aim to share with householders our knowledge regarding the history of their homes in this area, helping residents to make informed choices about any building works they may be considering. We have also shared information on restoration.
Our first project was to produce a character study of the ward. Completed in 2025 and published in September of that year, Chalkwell: A Character Study was distributed to all current members of our association, as well as to those living in featured properties and to our Member of Parliament, ward councillors, members of the Southend-on-Sea Planning Committee, estate agents, architects, surveyors, solicitors and others with a professional interest in the local built and natural environment following its launch at an event at Porters in November2025.
